Pablo Fanque

3-14 February, 2009

Anna Davern has reinvented the Rock. The artist’s pop response to jewellery gives us a dramatic new take on the precious just in time for Valentine’s Day.

In a departure from the artist’s previous work where she used imagery from metal containers, the Melbourne based jeweller prints and adheres pictures to steel using sublimation. “I’ve used the technique to create oversized fake versions of traditional styles of jewellery. It’s kind of an homage to one of the initial tenets of Contemporary jewellery which was to react against the use of precious materials. These works are also an alternative to the real thing at a time when the real thing may no longer be affordable.”
