27 Oct – 8 Nov 2008Intrigued by seventeenth century Haiku poet, Matsuo Basho and the nineteenth century composer, Maurice Ravel, Martin has produced a body of work which reflects the conversation she would have with these two great minds if they could ever be in the same place at the same time.
Both artists were inspired by nature and story telling, creating artworks with a deep sensitivity and innate lightness of touch. Ravel roamed the woods of Rambouillet seeking inspiration and solace. Basho roamed the length and breadth of Japan creating verse.
An established jeweler, Martin has been consistently creating jewellery which is whimsical, ornate and deeply rooted in narrative. She uses many and varied traditional jewellery techniques to create contemporary jewellery with the feeling of a timeless family heirloom.
The project has been funded by the Australia Council for the Arts
