For five days during the London Design Festival, Designersblock took residence in a striking headquarters at Covent Garden’s No1. The Piazza.

This was where Fossik chose to launch its debut range of jewellery from some of Australia’s finest contemporary jewellery designers.

Like the work ‘fossick’, (a characteristically Australian word), FOSSIK is all about seeking out and selecting the very best, as Director, Cate Rayson explains:

“Within Australia, contemporary jewellery design is thriving. I am London-based but Melbourne-born and my aim to take a selection of these designers’ work to a much broader market. These pieces are fresh, aesthetically beautiful and hand-crafted by highly trained and talented jewellery makers, many of whom have had their work acquired by major galleries in Australia and the USA. It’s not costume jewellery, nor is it bling. It’s like small pieces of art you buy to wear on your body.

There’s a real sense of integrity and craftsmanship about this work. The providence of each piece is clear, all are limited edition and no sweatshops or unethical working conditions are involved during any part of the process. There’s also no fakery or cut corners when it comes to quality and that’s a rarity in today’s world.

For the individual, design-loving, discerning shopper who’s looking for something beyond the High Street, Hatton Garden, or Bond Street, I believe FOSSIK will present something truly refreshing and appealing.”

Following the show, Cate has received expressions of interest from major gallery stores and contemporary jewellery boutiques in the UK, France, Italy and Portugal.

Also, Fossik is always interested in hearing from Australian-based jewellery designers with a proven ability to produce distinctive, desirable work as well as the infrastructure and ambition to produce work for this market.
